Valentine's Day is tricky. Eric and I (Eric especially) don't like to get caught up in too much commercialism surrounding holidays, yet I do like to do a little something fun for the kids.   This year I was going to be in Savannah with the girls on actual Valentine's Day so Eric and I planned a special dinner and little gifts for the girls a few nights before.  We got the girls a card a little gift each. Evie got a new blanket and Maggie a new cloth diaper. We live in exciting times over here at the Buergler house. Seriously though, I have zero toleration for candy and trinkets.  I made a simple cheese and meat fondue for family dinner. It was nutritious and entertainment all at once. Evie loved dipping her veggies in the cheese and Maggie had fun watching the action.  I wanted to challenge myself and to see how I've grown as a photographer since I did Luke's photos back in 2013  so I gifted my brother and sister-in-law a session as their shower gift .  I have been looking forward to this shoot for months, yet I still felt underprepared.  Newborn photography is hard.  Really hard.  Paige was very calm and relaxed throughout the entire session, which I know kept Ellie in a sweet sleepy state.  She also had purchased a few outfits just for this session and had them ready to go along with the blankets and a few ideas of what she wanted out of the photoshoot.  While the end goal of the shoot was portraits, I quickly realized during that day that I certainly favor lifestyle shoots to portraits so I took several of those too.  I made sure to include a few pictures with Paige's wedding ring because it belonged to her late mother.  Eric and I have been trying to get to Stateboro, GA to visit my siblings at least once a year. All three of them went to Georgia Southern.  After Katie (the last one) graduated two years ago we changed that "tradition" to Savannah, GA, where my brother, his wife, and our nephew/Godson Zachary live. Last year we went in early April .  This year we went down for Easter weekend. The whole trip came about because Eric's great aunt and uncle live in Beaufort, SC (about an hour away) and his family was meeting up to celebrate Easter there this year.  We took off Friday, left the house by 6 am to beat Spring Break traffic and were in Savannah by lunch. We had a pretty funny hiccup on the way down.  Just as we got to 75S/285 my GPS app was exploding with notifications about several miles of stopped traffic. This weekend I had the pleasure of honoring my sister, Katie, with a bachelorette weekend in Savannah.  Katie chose Savannah since she went to college nearby, it has great weather this time of year, and it's casual. Fourteen girls were able to make it from all over the country, and even Canada-eh?  I rented a house on one of the squares, which is the thing to do if you're ever in Savannah with a large group.  Since most of the houses have a 3 night minimum, a few of the girls took an extra day off work to take advantage of the required Thursday night stay. It's always risky getting away with 14 girls, but this was an exceptionally drama-free girl's weekend. Thank you, Jesus! Everyone arrived in stages on Friday, so we decided to have dinner at the house. Katie's sisters-in-law made a huge taco bar.  We spent the evening in our jammies playing games and drinking wine and sangria.
