Our Last Trip to Beaufort

We have loved going once or twice a year to visit Eric's great aunt Jo in Beaufort, SC.  Since her husband passed she has decided to move back up north to be near her children. We're sad that she's moving but glad she'll be closer to family.  Grandma and G.Daddy rented a house for the family for the weekend. Seriously, VRBO is my new favorite way to travel with kids. I love that we have a kitchen and can make our own breakfast since we're a bacon and eggs kind of family. Our first morning started with with quite an adventure. I am used to cooking with cooper core stainless pans and found myself cooking on a paper thin pan that burned everything to a crisp in seconds. Well, I set off the smoke alarm. It was some fancy computerized system and the home owners didn't leave us the password to override the smoke alarm. The first department showed up.  Oooops!  The weekend was kind of pooky as it rained off and on.  We still managed to go downtown to p...

Our Little Gymnast

We started the school year with Evie taking "dance" which was really more a music and movement type class.  She enjoyed it but I could see her eyeing the gym every time we walked past it to the dance studio.  When the first quarter of classes finished she asked to switch to gymnastics.  It was the perfect fit. She loved going to class!  As I've mentioned before she's really behind on her gross motor skills so this was perfect for her. She learned a lot of self confidence as well as expanded her skills.  She also over came a lot of fears - like going upside down on the bars and walking on the low balance beam without help!! At the end of the year the Kindergym classes host a group performance. They set up all the apparatus like a mini-meet. The kids are on teams with their class and they rotated around the gym showing off the tricks they learned this year. I have never seen Evie so excited. It was all she talked about for weeks.  I thought for certa...

Our First Family Beach Trip!

Having grown up less than an hour from Florida Gulf Beaches, beach is just what you do. Having lived in Atlanta now half of my life I definitely miss the ocean....a lot!  We've done a few beach trips here and there but I was craving another trip like crazy.  Eric's parents have been planning this week for quite some time.  The treated the whole family to a week at a beach house along 30A.  The house had 4 bedrooms, full kitchen, backyard pool and a very short walk to the beach. We did a Saturday to Saturday stay, which we LOVED. It was great to have Sunday to sort laundry and get our life organized before heading back in to the weekly grind. With a five and half hour drive ahead of us, not counting a potty training 3 year old's bladder, I decided to stock up on a few car toy surprises. I bought this Melissa and Doug Picture Maker , a Crayola dry erase board set, a few new story books, and the scrounged for some old favorites the girls hadn't played with in...

Spring Break Bucket List - Mission: Complete

It's been two weeks since Spring Break. I think it took us that long to recover from the amount of fun we had in just 10 short days.  We checked everything off the bucket list and then some! Friday & Saturday - Kites and Trikes The girls enjoyed a few laps around the neighborhood on their new tandem tricycle that Maggie got for her birthday. (Thanks Grandma and G.Daddy for the awesome Craigslist find) Eric took the girls down to Leeann and Dan's neighborhood to take Luke over to the park to play. They also tried to fly kites.  Little success, but it satisfied Evie. We had fun over the weekend coloring eggs and celebrating Easter with family. Monday - Ice Skating Monday I took Evie to go ice skating. She was so excited and loved everything about the day.  She loved watching the kids skate. Evie even did fantastic getting her skates on and walking around the outside of the rink in her skates. However, the second her feet hit the ice, she p...
