You Are Stronger Than You Think - My 100 Pure Barre Class Journey

It is beyond my wildest dreams that tonight I hit a milestone of 100 Pure Barre classes (at my home studio). I was hoping to have reached this goal about 6 weeks ago, but life happens.  And that's the biggest lesson I have learned this year:  just because life happens doesn't mean that your fitness routine is toast. Get up and keep trying. I was 8 months postpartum and really struggling with my back and hips hurting.  My chiropractor said my core was probably horribly out of shape from having two kids and not really exercising.  She got me back on my feet with a daily walking challenge of one mile, two miles, and then three miles.  Once I was able to do that she suggested adding yoga or pilates classes to my weekly regimen to start building my core while protecting my back.  I liked those well enough but I was hesitant to invest that kind of money into something I only liked okay .  Providence had me leave th...

Nashville Anniversary Trip

Eric took two days off from work so with Grandma and G. Daddy in place to watch the girls, Eric and I hit the road early on a Thursday in October Nashville bound.  The only two things set on our agenda was that I had to teach my science class, which I do from my laptop, and be at the Grand Ole Opry for a Dave Ramsey event. We stopped in Chattanooga which is not quite halfway.  We walked the city, had lunch, did a little shopping, ate some Moon Pies, and popped into Panera so I could teach and then off we went. We called the girls since we knew they'd be in bed before we finished with the Dave Ramsey events.  They were eating dinner at Chuy's.  Ironically enough we were eating dinner at Chuy's in Nashville! (Can't beat the Happy Hour cocktail special and Nacho Car, amiright?) The Dave Ramsey event was so fun!  We've taken the course, taught the course, and lived the course.  We really enjoyed seeing him live for the first time.  The new r...

30 before 30... Revisiting The List.

Well friends, it's true. I turned 30. I celebrated the much anticipated Golden Birthday. In honor of The Big Day, I am going to review the thirty things I wanted to complete before I turned 30. 30 Before 30 1.  Go on a Hot Air Balloon Ride , completed in July 2012.   I was able to soar 3,000 feet in the air over Asheville, North Carolina. Incredible. 2.  Take a Photography Class , completed May 2011.  My Dad and I took a course on how to use our DSLRs in full manual mode. 3. Lose and Keep Off 12 pounds, no progress As I started this challenge I sprained my ankle and shortly after recovering got pregnant. Battled post-partum depression...and well....I now need to lost closer to 30 pounds. Gulp. 4. Run a second half marathon, completed Feb, 2011 and April, 2012  I had to walk both due to the issues list above. I give myself full credit, I walked two half marathons!! 5. Compete in a second Iron Girl or “real” spri...

Maternity Photos: A sneak peek!

Last Saturday  I mentioned my friend Amy took some maternity photos of me and Eric.  I loved the location she chose - an old cotton mill, destroyed by Sherman's March to the Sea, along a stream that feeds the Chattahoocee River.  As much as Eric and I love to hike, we had never been there.  And it's 3 miles from hour apartment.  We will definitely be back. I met Amy while I was attempting graduate school.  I could take some undergraduate level courses to fulfill content requirements and that's where my path crossed Amy's.  She sat behind me (or I sat in front of her).  I noticed her because of all the religious medal on her necklace.  Figures that in a class of 90 people,  I'd sit next to the only other Catholic one :)  We got to talking over the semester and discovered we had a lot of mutual connections.  That was the only class we had together, but we've kept up on Facebook, e-mail, and blogging. When Amy offered to tak...

Memorial Day Weekend: Highlands & Asheville, NC

My computer is still being worked on...so I snagged Eric's computer for the night.  And while I had my two cameras with me the whole weekend, I always had the camera card in the camera that I didn't have with me. Silly me. Several weeks ago Ashley contacted me to let me know she and Mike were thinking of taking the long way to their beach trip via Asheville.  Coincidentally it would be the same weekend that Eric and I would be a little over an hour away in Highlands, NC.  Perfect timing.  Much like last year's rendezvous in Indianapolis. Eric took Friday off from work so we drove to Highlands on Thursday night.  We enjoyed quiet conversation with my grandparents, and toured all the renovations to the house due to this winter's pipe bursting disaster. After a lingering breakfast at their cabin we drove to Ashville just in time for brunch with Ashley, Mike and Gabe.  Whole wheat strawberry-banana pancakes. Please, and thank you.  Eric had a local fish...

Our One Year Anniversary

This past weekend Eric and I celebrated our first anniversary.  I cannot believe how fast time has gone!  To celebrate the weekend Eric planned a series of events for us to enjoy and celebrate some of the milestones in our relationship. Thursday night we at dinner at home and hung around the apartment.  Nothing special, but as always it's nice to just be in each other's company. Friday we both took the day off from work to go camping.  The day took a turn for the never-ending when Eric realized he had to go TO the airport to book a flight using a gift card we had received for our wedding.  Turns out we only had the receipt and the gift giver is in the coast guard on a boat far far away from Blackberry service.  We're disappointed things didn't work out in time, but alas the weekend went on...  Once Eric came home we hit the road to go backpacking in North Georgia. Hiking has a special place in our hearts, as it was our first hike together that we...
