Evie: Preschool 2014-2015 Wrap Up

To say that we love Evie's preschool is an understatement. From the moment we went on the tour our whole family has felt loved. And a genuine love, not a let-me-sell-you-our-school type of love.  Evie was placed in a class of children who all turned 3 in the Fall. There were 8 kids at the start of the year and 13 by the last day. Lots of new families moving to the area.  A few things that we love about her school: all of the teachers know all the kids names teachers and faculty are joyful, genuine, and invested in the children they're very organized and great at communicating (we received the 2015-2016 calendar on the last day of school. my planner girl's heart is happy!) the tuition covers everything except snacks and diapers (supplies, paper goods, baby wipes, and all!) so no nickel and diming every few weeks for supplies  each family is responsible for co-hosting a holiday class party - and the teachers stressed over and over "KEEP IT SIMPLE" a...

Back to School 2014

After much discernment we chose to move Evie to a new preschool.  She was now eligible for the preschool at our parish, which was just a block away from her previous preschool. Evie had been placed in the 2 year old class last year due to low enrollment.  If she stayed at her school or switched to our parish preschool she would have to repeat the 2 year old class with students who had never been to school before.  While our parish preschool is absolutely incredible, the 25 minutes commute + price tag didn't sit well with us.  And while her previous preschool was great, Evie was ready for a bigger school and more challenging environment.  I started looking at a few programs closer to our house.  We applied to the neighboring Catholic parish preschool but once again we were wait listed.  I looked at the two Methodist preschools near our house, but they were HUGE! So a friend suggested the Episcopalian preschool where she sends her kids. ...

Evie's Preschool Experience - A midyear check in

I "signed up" or "committed" to join Conversion Diary in doing seven blog posts in seven days. One of the premises was to write about stuff you've been meaning to catch up on.  And the point of the exercise is just to write, and not be perfectionist about blogging (not that I really am anyway, ha!). Today I want to share a little about Evie's preschool experience. (first day of school! My family!) As a short back story, Evie went to in-home childcare with another family for last school year while I worked. It was fabulous. And that had been the plan for this year as well.  The nanny we used last year moved on to another job so we'd searched and hired someone for the summer, who was great but she was a college student.  And the nanny we'd hired for the Fall ended up getting recruited for job in her field a few months earlier than expected. This left us without childcare while I worked 15-19 hours a week in the Fall. We prayed and Googled a...

Evie's First Day of School!

Last year we were abundantly blessed with a nanny-share with one of my co-workers.  It was ideal and fantastic.  The kids were well attended to and in the comfort of someone's home.  With the other mom having her third this summer and the nanny needing a little more lucrative work, we parted ways. Eric and I were hoping to recreate that in-home nanny experience for Evie this Fall.  We had a college girl nanny this summer, and then a friend of my sister's was lined up to watch Evie from August through December.  Unfortunately for us, fortunately for her, she landed a dream job to start in early September.  After only a month I had to scramble to find something. Thanks be to God, as I was driving to work one day I saw a little church post a sign that they still had openings in their Mom's Morning Out program.  Quick Google search landed me the details I needed:  the right location, the right days, the right hours, and the right price. I ...
