Maggie: One Month

(no joke, this is how she came out of the womb! Diva since day one!)

Measurements:

Weight: from 7lbs 14 oz (birth) to 8lbs 10 oz (3 week check up)

Length:  from 20.5 inches (birth) to 21.5 inches (3 week check up)

Feeds: About 20-28 minutes about every 2.5-4 hours during the day, and every 3-5 hours at night

Diapers:  Tiny Fit Tots Bots cloth diapers, and just graduated to size 1 disposables!

Clothes: Too long for newborn, wearing 0-3s and swimming in 3 month clothes
Shoes: none
Teeth: none

Firsts:

April 10 - Came home from the hospital!

April 10 - First Bath - with Grandma Buergler

April 15 - Pediatrician Visit 

April 16 - Visit to Mommy's old co-workers

April 19 - First trip to Taco Mac with Aunt Katie, Uncle Sam, Rosemary and Pat and of course, Mommy, Daddy, and Evie

April 20 (Easter Sunday) - First Mass

April 28 - Trip to Marlow's for wine night with Alyshia and Fr. Josh (and seminarian Jack!)

May 3 - Trip to Farmer's Market in Ergo with Daddy and Evie

May 3 - First bottle with Grandma, just to try it!

May 4 - Stayed with G. Daddy without Mommy or Daddy

May 7 - Slept first 5+ hour stretch at night (praise the Lord!)

Milestones:

Starting to focus with eyes and "see" mommy

Getting close to a social smile; mostly little smiles after feedings or when gassy

We've packed up her Newborn clothes already!

Likes:

Being held, especially around dinner time

Car rides or stroller rides, as long as we're moving

Snuggling with Mommy or Daddy

Stretching out

Putting her hands up over her head

Dislikes:

Being cold -- so having a diaper change or bath makes her very grumpy

Getting in and out of the carseat

When Evie pokes her too much

Staying in her swaddle. "I throw my hands up in the air sometimes" She sleeps really well either in a Daddy swaddle or with her hands up.

Other:

We're finally hitting a bit of a routine with feedings and our daily schedule.  They're not on-the-dot on the clock, but I'm getting the hang of how to feel out feeding her and still managing pre-school drop off, errands, etc.  

I've only pumped a few times, mostly just for relief while my supply leveled off.  And I'm starting to build a little supply so I can go out for girls nights, or so we can leave Maggie while we go to weddings, etc this summer.

Evie's been really great with Maggie, with a few exceptions.  She LOVES her sister. She is constantly giving her kisses.  Maggie is the first person she wants to see in the morning and before she goes to bed.  It makes my heart explode.

Just like her big sister, Maggie farts like a grown man.  Seriously. I question myself and Eric before I assume it's our little peanut.

Also like her sister, she's not really into the pacifier.  She's taken it a few times if that just to soothe herself to sleep in the afternoon. And in about 90 seconds she spits it out.

Baby acne.  Poor thing. It just looks like it hurts.

We're trying to figure out if she has conjunctivitis or a clogged tear duct. We have eye drops and do a warm compression massage.  Either way it's starting to clear up.  We may never know which it was.

Maggie is a really good baby!  She's usually a bit fussy around dinner time, but other than that we can easily sort her cries and tend to her needs pretty quickly.  

The night time routine is finally getting easier now that she's sleeping 4-5 hour stretches.  I usually feed her and sometimes change her (if I need to wake her up a bit more to feed her).  Eric gets up to burp, swaddle and put her down.  But as she's going back to sleep easier, I will probably manage the whole night time scene myself.

We've been SO blessed with meals from friends and from the church Mom's Group.  We've hardly had to cook. Some folks have brought breakfast quiche or casseroles, then salad bars for lunches, and hearty dinners.  Such a gift!

Evie calls Maggie "Maggie Moo" - we asked her where she came up with the nickname. She said from Daddy, but Eric denies it.

From the moment we heard her first cry, Maggie snorts when she gets really worked up.  I think this is (sadly) phasing out.  It's precious.  Though my guess is that it would be embarrassingafter she's 3 or 4.

Evie is YOUR mini-me.  Maggie is definitely Eric's.
